“Maximising Impact: lessons from a career in academic research and startups”

A journey from pioneering research in epigenetics to globally impactful startups. The story of the founding of Abcam, a billion-dollar antibody reagents company and Storm Therapeutics, a drug discovery company translating a target from the lab into patient treatment against cancer. The setting up of PRIMED, a new entrepreneurial organisation will be presented. PRIMED will help early career scientist understand the process of startup creation and promote those with ideas towards founding startups.

About Prof. Sir Tony Kouzarides, PhD, FRS, FMedSci

Sir Tony is a professor of Cancer Biology at the University of Cambridge, and a pioneer of the epigenetics field. He is founder and director of the Milner Therapeutics Institute, whose mission is to connect academia and industry to develop new therapies. A serial entrepreneur, he has founded several companies including Abcam and Storm Therapeutics. His most recent company, VELLOS, is setting up a new entrepreneurial program called PRIMED in Europe and the US, to promote startup creation by early career scientists. He is a venture partner in the San Francisco Investor firm Fifty Years. He was knighted by the King for “Services to Healthcare Innovation and Delivery”.
